Meet the St John's Academy Councillors

Mrs Gill Maddocks - Chair Person & Community Governor

I have been a governor in various primary schools in the area for many years including St John's. I believe every child deserves the support and education to flourish in the future within the local community and it is a privilege to be part of a team who put the children at the heart of all we do. Professionally, I was involved in early years care and education, working for Local Authorities as a quality improvement adviser. I enjoy being retired spending time with the grandchildren, keeping fit and being lost in a good book.

Mr Dan Hortop - Headteacher

I am the Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at St. John's. I have been a teacher since 2010, working in schools across Salisbury. I have been a Deputy Head across two schools since 2016, most recently working at St. Michael's in Larkhill. I have a passion for cooking and running, and have recently taken up paddle-boarding. In 2024, I will achieve a life-long ambition by throwing myself out of a plane. I just hope they remember to attach a parachute!

Miss Sarah Malton - Parent Governor

As a parent of a child at the school, I wanted the chance to give something back to the school.

I come from background in art and as a practising artist I hope to bring a little extra colour and fun to the children and support the the already fantastic team at St. John’s in anyway I can. In my spare time I like to explore the countryside around Warminster and I’m always doing something creative with my hands.

Ms Marcia Northeast - Foundation Governor

I am originally from Warminster and attended St John’s School as a pupil. Professionally, I have worked in education since 1984 where my most recent experience was as a headteacher of a primary school. Having recently moved back to the area, I am keen to be an active member of the team at St John’s School. In my spare time I enjoy playing and singing music which is a passion ignited by learning the recorder at St John’s School!

Mrs Charlotte Walker - Staff Governor

I am the Assistant Head at St. John’s School and also teach Butterworth Class. I achieved my childhood dream of becoming a teacher in 1996 and have never looked back. I love my job! I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with and inspire the children at St. John’s every day. When I’m not teaching, I indulge my passion for sequins, sparkles and all things ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. I love watching performances and improving my own dance skills.

Natalie Beach - Parent Governor

I have a long history with St. John's with both my husband and myself having attended. My son  is now a student and my daughter  attended before moving up to Kingdown. I became a governor to help feel more involved in the school and to give back. In my professional life I work in Change and business transformation in the financial services industry.

Mr James Perry - Parent Governor

My daughter attends St. John's and being a governor is a way I can support both the school and the local community continue to flourish.

My professional background is an Environmental Consultant and social value environmental expert in a corporate environment, providing opportunities to improve environmental performance for future generations and opportunities to improve the community.
