Pine (Y1 & Y2)

HOMEWORK WILL GO OUT EVERY FRIDAY AND MUST BE RETURNED BY THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY.
If homework is handed in late, it is unlikely that there will be time to stick new homework in. Please ensure that you are logging in to EdShed every week as this is an expected part of the homework. Logins are stuck in the back cover of all homework books that have been handed in to me last term.

Welcome to Pine Class!

TERM 4

Welcome back! It has been amazing to have the children back at school with such enthusiasm and positivity! We are doing really well at getting back into routine and following our high expectations. Please have a look at the planner for this term so you know what your children are learning. This will allow you to help them at home or simply talk about their day with them!

There is also a 'Home Learning' section below in the event of closure or if you need to self isolate for 14 days.

The Maths activities cover some previous learning and some new learning that will be covered this term. Please remember that the children can use lots of things to help them and if you need any further support, don't hesitate to drop me an email!

For English, I have provided an activity book for each year group that covers a range of basic skills. There are also SPAG mats to choose from which cover spelling, punctuation and grammar 'mini tasks' appropriate to this time of year. As we are writing biographies this term, I have also added some bits to cover this as well.

Please use phonicsplay.co.uk for phonics. Use the Phase 5 flashcards to practice sounds and then play some Phase 5 games.

DON'T FORGET...
  • Keep reading each day
  • Log on to EdShed
  • Log on to TT Rockstars
If you have completed work at home due to Covid-19, please email it to me via a photo or scanned image. Thank you!
HOME LEARNING

YEAR 1 MATHS
YEAR 1 SPAG
YEAR 2 MATHS
YEAR 2 SPAG
ENGLISH FOR ALL...
In Pine class, we start the day with morning activities that let us practice our reading, maths and writing.

Maths
This term, we are revisiting counting and place value. We will be counting confidently over 100 and back again. We will understand that 2-digit numbers are made up of tens and ones and use this to understand the number system, partition, compare, order and write numbers correctly.

Have a look on here for some fun games to play:

Phonics/SPAG
We have a 20 minute phonics session - we will recap what we have learnt in Phase 5 so far before continuing further. We will play lots of games to practice and make sure we know them so that it helps us read well and helps with our spelling.

English (Writing)
This term, we will be looking at a fable - The Crow's Tale. We are improving our writing using The Write Stuff, with a sharp focus on vocabulary building before using it in sentences.
As always, we will be focusing on perfecting the basics - capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, spelling and handwriting.

Good spelling and handwriting are essential!
Handwriting must be neat and tidy with correct letter formation and clear spacing between words. Those joining, should ensure that each letter is clear to see.
Please log in to EdShed to hone your spelling skills - this is an expected part of your homework.

Reading
It is absolutely essential that all children read every day. This can be a mixture of you reading to them and them reading to you, in turn.
Read lots and lots of different books (fiction and non-fiction), comics, food packaging - anything!

Afternoons
Afternoons in Pine class are full of different fun and exciting things!
This term we will be learning about animals around the world in Geography - discovering their habitats and how they change between continents.

In Science this term, we are learning about parts of animals. We will learn to identify and name human body parts and their association with our senses. We will also identify and name animal body parts and how they differ between animal groups, (birds, mammals, fish etc).

DT is all about moving minibeasts! We will learn about different mechanisms before making our own moving picture with our own choice of mechanism.
