Pine (Y1 & Y2)

WEEK BEGINNING 18.01.2021

Please find below the work to be completed this week.

Maths Within the timetables just below this message box, you will find links to teaching videos for every lesson. These must be watched as they are very helpful and allow some practice before completing the worksheet. I understand that there have been some problems accessing the videos via the timetable links so I have included a link to the webpages where you will find the videos for the week:
YEAR 1: Spring Week 3 – Number: Addition and Subtraction (within 20) | White Rose Maths  (2 of the videos needed this week are there. As soon as the new page is added, I will post the new link here!)
YEAR 2: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/spring-week-3-number-multiplication-and-division/
I have also added the teaching slides just in case you have problems with the videos. Maths work must be completed before the lunch time TEAMS session as this will be their opportunity to mark it and discuss any difficulties.
English Please ensure children are ready for the TEAMS lesson at 11.45 with a pencil and 2 sheets of paper each day. If there is anything else they need, I will  put it on the webpage for the corresponding day.
Phonics Please ensure children are ready for the TEAMS lesson at 9.45 with a pencil and paper or a whiteboard and pen.
SPAG Please ensure children are ready for the TEAMS lesson at 10.10 with a pencil and paper and a copy of the page for that day, (this does not need to be printed).
Reading - Please keep reading 1:1 with your child every day and complete any tasks set out on the timetable.
Afternoons - Mondays are usually PSHE and RE so I have kept this the same.
The other afternoons this week are art. All videos and tasks have been added for each day.

BE PREPARED! Next week we will continue art. If possible, children will need access to paper (normal, tissue, crepe will all be good), drawing media (pencils, pens, pastels, chalk are all good) and a cereal box or something boxy! Colours will mainly be black, grey, red, orange and yellow.
Please don't panic if you don't have, or can't get, any of this - we can be creative or I can put some paper together for you to collect from school.

HOMEWORK WILL GO OUT EVERY FRIDAY AND MUST BE RETURNED BY THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY.
If homework is handed in late, it is unlikely that there will be time to stick new homework in. Please ensure that you are logging in to EdShed every week as this is an expected part of the homework. Logins are stuck in the back cover of all homework books that have been handed in to me last term.

Welcome to Pine Class!

Teacher: Miss Markham
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Rogers, Mrs Hornsey, Mrs Case

TERM 3

Welcome back to the New Year! We hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas, managed to have a rest and spend some quality time together having fun!

Below is the planner for this term so please take a look to find out what your children are learning. This will allow you to help them at home or simply talk about their day with them!

There is also a 'Home Learning' section below in the event of closure or if you need to self isolate for 14 days.

The Maths activities cover some previous learning and some new learning that will be covered this term. Please remember that the children can use lots of things to help them and if you need any further support, don't hesitate to drop me an email!

For English, I have provided an activity book for each year group that covers a range of basic skills. There are also SPAG mats to choose from which cover spelling, punctuation and grammar 'mini tasks' appropriate to this time of year. As we are writing biographies this term, I have also added some bits to cover this as well.

Please use phonicsplay.co.uk for phonics. Use the Phase 5 flashcards to practice sounds and then play some Phase 5 games.

DON'T FORGET...
  • Keep reading each day
  • Log on to EdShed
  • Log on to TT Rockstars
If you have completed work at home due to Covid-19, please email it to me via a photo or scanned image. Thank you!
HOME LEARNING
...in the event of self isolation
YEAR 1 SPAG
YEAR 2 SPAG
ENGLISH FOR ALL...
In Pine class, we start the day with morning activities that let us practice our handwriting and sentence formation.

Maths
This term, we are learning about addition and subtraction, money and multiplication & division (Y2 only). We will be using our place value learning from last term to help us add and subtract - numbers and money amounts!

Have a look on here for some fun games to play:

Phonics/SPAG
We have a 20 minute phonics session - we will begin with Phase 4 before moving on to Phase 5. We will play lots of games to practice and make sure we know them so that it helps us read well and helps with our spelling.

English (Writing)
This term, we will be looking at fantasy stories. We will read 'The Dragon Machine' by Helen Ward before writing our own stories.
Afterwards, we will learn a poem; '10 Things Found In a Wizard's Pocket', and then have a go at writing our own poems.

Good spelling and handwriting are essential!
Handwriting must be neat and tidy with correct letter formation and clear spacing between words. Those joining, should ensure that each letter is clear to see.
Please log in to EdShed to hone your spelling skills - this is an expected part of your homework.

Reading
It is absolutely essential that all children read every day. This can be a mixture of you reading to them and them reading to you, in turn.
Read lots and lots of different books (fiction and non-fiction), comics, food packaging - anything!

Afternoons
Afternoons in Pine class are full of different fun and exciting things!
This term we will be learning about coding in computing. There is a free App that you can download for this: https://www.scratchjr.org/

In Science this term, we are learning about feeding and exercise. We will find out what the basic needs for survival are, create simple food chains and learn about food safety and hygiene.

In Geography, we will be learning about our local area. We will discover the human and physical features of the land around the school, create our own maps and learn the basic compass directions.

DT is all about healthy eating! We will find out what the pine class' favourite fruit and veg are before designing and making a kebab that eveyone will love!
