Please keep the photos coming - I love seeing them, they are all amazing!!! :)

HAPPY HALF TERM!!!

So as a treat...I'll let you all have a week off! :)
Enjoy the sunshine, it looks like it's here to stay for some time yet and keep being kind to those at home with you. I also have an apology to make...I read the rest of the Mr Penguin book (to the end!) and then put the iPad on my desk without actually loading it up to the website!!! As soon as I get in, I will make it my first job to do this so you can all find out how the story ends!
In the meantime, make sure you all keep up with a bit of reading each day :)

See you soon!

Miss Markham

Week 5?! Last week of term so soon?!

The sun is still shining, we are all still smiling and you are all still working so hard! I have been blown away by everything I have seen from you!!! The class email address had a bit of a problem last week so if you sent anything to it prior to last Tuesday and not received a reply, please send it again as it may have got lost in cyberspace before it got fixed!
I have been super impressed with your African artwork this term - I wish I had been in school to do it with you! Your maths has been excellent and I hear some of you are really keeping on top of your times tables - well done! The other things that make me smile are the photos of you simply having fun - playing, gardening, painting, cooking, going for walks and enjoying family time. So many of you have still built some learning into these times; like science  in your gardening and on your walks, maths in your cooking and playing, and reading with your family.

Just a quick note on maths this week: the usual link to the White Rose website should allow you to still watch the videos for each day's learning but they have removed the worksheets. All the worksheets to go with the videos are now included below with the rest of the week's work.

Keep it up - we are nearly there and I will see you all again sooner than you think! :)

Miss Markham

EXTRA BITS...
In Pine class, we start the day with morning activities of free writing or Maths.
We use http://www.pobble365.com as our stimulus for writing.

Maths
This term, Year 1 are learning about shapes and fractions whereas Year 2 are learning about fractions.

Have a look on here for some fun games to play:

Phonics/SPAG
Year 1 have a 20 minute phonics session - most children are working within Phase 5c, looking at alternative pronunciations and spellings.

Year 2 have their SPAG lesson. https://www.spellingplay.co.uk and Phase 6 in https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk will help with this.

English (Writing)
This term, we are writing our own quest stories - children may want to write a new one whilst they are at home! We used the story of Lost and Found to help us.

We were also looking at recount writing and using our trip to the Haynes Motor Museum as our stimulus for this.

Good spelling and handwriting are essential!
Handwriting must be neat and tidy with correct letter formation and clear spacing between words. Those joining, should ensure that each letter is clear to see.

Reading
It is absolutely essential that all children read every day. This can be a mixture of you reading to them and them reading to you, in turn.
Read lots and lots of different books (fiction and non-fiction), comics, food packaging - anything!

Afternoons
Afternoons in Pine class are full of different fun and exciting things!
This term we have been learning about coding in computing. There is a free App that you can download for this: https://www.scratchjr.org/

In Science this term, we are learning about materials and their various properties. This included investigations with slime:

Investigations with floating and sinking - you can make boats out of various materials to test this (paper, card, tin foil, cellophane, wood - lollipop sticks, plastic - cut up bottles).
