Learning Power

Here at St John's we support the children in their ability to LEARN how to LEARN.

We call this LEARNING POWER. It is basically a set of skills a child can develop in order to improve their ability to focus, listen, apply themselves, maximise their potential.

The documents above provide the generic Building Learning Power approach. However, here at St John's we have adapted this to become PRIDE LEARNING POWER. As these are such important skills for life long learning, we have even built in PRIDE Learning Power into our St John's WAYS. Our WAYS are a set of values, principles, behaviours and expectations that guide us through our day / through our life - helping us to become better learners, better friends, better citizens, better people.

Our PRIDE Learning Powers are:

P – PRACTICE, PERSEVERANCE & POSITIVITY

R – RESOURCEFULNESS & RISK-TAKING

I – IMITATION & INNOVATION

D – DREAMS & DISTRACTION MANAGEMENT

E – ENQUIRY, EMPATHY & ECHO-ENHANCEMENT

Our PRIDE MANTRA we use each day is:

Together we grow stronger through: PRIDE in our selves; PRIDE in our school; PRIDE in our learning; and PRIDE in our future.”

We regularly assess pupils skills in PRIDE Learning Power, as well as our WAYS to help parents to support their child's ongoing development.
