History & Geography

History

At St. John’s, we inspire our children to develop a curiosity about events, places and people in a variety of times and environments and to develop an appreciation of human achievements and aspirations. Through their learning, our children develop their understanding of the values of our society. Within their lessons, the children are able to develop a knowledge of chronology within which they can organise their understanding of the past and develop their understanding of how the past was different from the present and that people of other times and places may have had different values and attitudes from ours today.

Geography

At St. John’s, we encourage the children’s interest in their own surroundings and develop within them a knowledge and understanding of the physical and human processes which shape places. We foster the children’s knowledge of other cultures and, in doing so, teach a respect and understanding of what it means to be a positive citizen in a multi-cultural country. As global citizens, we encourage pupils at St. John’s to develop a commitment to sustainable ways of living and the importance of looking after our wonderful planet.
